West Virginia uses DDR in schools to fight obesity.

A couple of years ago, I lost 15-20lbs playing DDR for a half hour every morning. Then SWG crunch started and I didn’t have time to do it anymore. All the weight came back, alas.

There are even incriminating snapshots of me playing DDR versus such MMO luminaries as Philip Rosedale of Linden Lab and Second Life, Randy Farmer of Habitat (OK, that one was actually Pump It Up), and Serafina Pechan of Atriarch.

Fortunately, I think most of said snapshots are not actually on the Internet.

Yet.

Anyway, insert obligatory post on how many serious applications there are for game technology, etc. Then go do “Paranoia” on hard with two mats.

  2. Here’s one for you. If my wife buys an exercise bike for me as she keeps threatening to, something like this would make it more interesting.

  3. Man, that was a fun day. 🙂

  4. Now this is why it’s important that cam-corders get smaller and smaller. Not for the ease of burden on family vacations, but so you can always have one in your pocket. Then you’ll be ready when you see Raph dancing to an arcade game! I don’t think pictures could do that justice.

In a related note when we were at Disney last summer I really noticed how a few lazy months away from my workout regime had already begun to destroy me. My 10 year old son and I were doing a game in Epcot Center where you have to run to make your robot run in the game, actually jump to go over hurdles, and run to the sides to dodge. Shortly into the game I realized I had made a terrible mistake and was holding on to the handles to keep up with all the kids I was playing against =) So yeah… those games are no joke. I don’t have enough rhythm in me to handle any of the Dance Dance games so it’s passive entertainment (TV Series box sets) for my workouts.
