Here’s a fantastic resource: Martin Rytter’s History Database of videogame events, which uses the timeline and lots more as a source, searchable, filterable and even exportable! Apparently it’s part of his thesis work on MMOGs.

  1. […] Paul Simon’s SurpriseIt’s been years, but he’s finally graced us with a new album. And it has the Oscar-nominated “Fathers and Daughters” on it. It also has Brian Eno’s production, which may be a bit of a “surprise” to most in itself.         His last album, You’re The One, had a hefty dose of world music hangover, but veered into […] ExceptionalismIn the apparently neverending discussion thread on the Metaverse Summit, I seem to have been assigned the role of Second Life skeptic or even opponent, despite this not being my intention. In fact, it’s rather odd, since in some circles I am considered a staunch SL defender, whereas in others I am the skeptic…! I […] Two more social world developmentsNeither is new, but I think I haven’t blogged ‘em before: Google moves into virtual worlds, which pretty much everybody I know in the Bay Area has been talking about for weeks now… and this article about the PCD Music Lounge, which is notable because it’s a custom virtual world designed for a band as a promotional […] Game History DatabaseHere’s a fantastic resource: Martin Rytter’s History Database of videogame events, which uses the timeline and lots more as a source, searchable, filterable and even exportable! Many of my fondest memories of my Koster grandparents involve sitting in song circles. I inherited it when he died some years ago, and messed with it a little bit back then, but it’s been sitting gathering dust for the last few […] The Sunday Poem: The Puppy PoemI don’t really have any poems specifically for or about mothers, which is rather odd, come to think of it. But I do have this one, which is about parenting and marriage and of course, a puppy. The Puppy Poem She’s just teething now, the first Puppy of our marriage — a black Hound, glossy and bewildered. And tonight, after […] Feeling trivialOh, look, I’m trivia. The discussion with Prokofy Neva in the comment thread here has gotten interesting, I think, for those who aren’t watching it already. I am not at E3 today. I was there yesterday. I only spent 2 hours on the show floor, alas, the rest was in meetings. This means I didn’t really get […] A couple of magazine appearancesI haven’t seen either of these, but I hear the May issue of Computer Games Magazine had some of the debate on instancing that went around the blogosphere a few months ago; apparently Brad McQuaid and my reply are featured; and the May issue of Game Developer has an article on self-promotion in the game industry that […] Not at E3/At E3You may have wondered why no E3 posts. Because today, Wednesday, was my wedding anniversary. 14 years, and it still feels as good as ever. The next gen of consoles pales in comparison. I will, however, be there Thursday. Can’t say I am looking forward to it, actually. Loud, tiring, and a two-and-an-half hour drive at […] ( vote for this news ) […]
