This presentation, originally from the KGDI’s Seo Tae Geon, was passed on to me by Gordon Walton, and apparently is freely distributed by the KGDI to anyone who asks. It provides some info on the Korean market for games. You can take a look here (2.4MB PDF) if you’re curious. Some of the key stats:

  • Market size: $4.3 billion, but estimated to be $10 billion.
  • 2461 companies
  • 3842 titles
  • 47,051 employees, but expected to grow to 100,000
  • What looks like a projected $1bn in export sales for games
  • 30% of global online gaming
  • Korean games are in service in 40 countries
  • Korean games have 60-80% market share in China and in South East Asia as a whole.
  • Several stats on stock market prices for various game companies based in South Korea, mostly showing 200 to 300% increases in the last year.
