Awesome. 🙂 SketchFighter 4000 Alpha is the next game from Ambrosia, who have been making kick-ass games for the Mac since forever. (Escape Velocity must be played to be believed…) And the art style is all school notebooks. Be sure to check out the screenshot gallery. Gotta love the explosions that leave behind eraser smudge.

  1. Come on, Raph. 🙂 Surely you recognize the difference between developer and publisher. Escape Velocity was created by Matt Burch. SketchFighter is the brainchild of Lars Gafvert (Lost Minds). They may both be great games, but neither was “made” by Ambrosia.

  2. There’s a handful of games out with a similar aesthetic.

    I really liked Paperball, a breakout/arkanoid clone:

At TGS this year, I saw Papershooter, an FPS game where teh characters were papermario style characters.

One thing that bugged me about that one and many of these with the paper aesthetic, is that they don’t work it into the gameplay. Papershooter had machine guns, and when you shot someone, confetti.

    Great, but why bullet-firing guns?

Why not water pistols or flame throwers, not to mention hole punchers and shredder traps. Maybe moths!

Good point — perhaps better to say that they have been putting out great games for a long time. 🙂 They’ve always been a small-scale publisher more than a developer, I think.

  4. That’s it.

    I’m buying a mac.

  5. looks awesome – and probably lots of fun as well.

incompatible hardware/OS on my side though…

  6. Ditto on the Mac.

That looks like awesome fun, haha.
