Battlestar Galactica Online

Hmm, not what I would pick as a good setting for an online world. Confined to ships? Destructoid has the scoop. Given it’s on the 360, I am guessing it’ll be more of a shooter game, in space or squad-based FPS or something.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Wouldn’t that actually make for an interesting online “world”? A fleet of huge spaces/ships could not only mimic a city, but could grow organically as the population grows. Is that really so different from releasing add-on’s that open up new terrain?
There’s travel between ships and some of the ships are massive and people have their quarters on ships. Lots of opportunity for MMO-like activity there.
And there have been a few worlds they’ve visited. If they were to go with a theme similar to the original series, there were lots of worlds to visit.
I have always thought it was a perfect setting for an on line world.
Done DURING the first cylon invasion, i think it would be awesome.
When players log in, they’ll want to be a part of the BSG universe. Yes, it’s not a “traditional world” but that just makes it more of a design challenge. I groove on the licensed content MMO. I hope it works. Heck, I’ll just be happy when Stargate Worlds comes out.
I don’t think it’s going to be an MMO, not as a 360 release. More likely it’s going to feature online multiplayer via XBOX Live, which is where the “Online” in the title comes from.
A BSG MMORPG is possible, but in order to have fan appeal, it would probably need to be done along the lines of an SWG or Earth and Beyond, where a good chunk of the activity takes place in small ships. The current TV series doesn’t really give a good setting to work with apart from Galactica and the fleet, because the fleet is constantly on the move. Of course, you could set it prior to the invasion, or during the first war, which allows a lot more creative freedom.
When sci-fi released their original miniseries pilot, there was also a BSG game released at the same time for the original XBOX, which was a halfway decent space combat sim set 20 years prior during the first Cylon war. Think Wing Commander. It was fun, and it also made use of artwork from the original series. So I could see them doing a “sequel” to that as well for the 360.
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see what it turns out to be.
This sounds a little like EVE-Online
Personally, I hope its set in the original series version of the game. But I tend to agree with those that suggest it will be iether a very limited MMORP or more just a online FPS game. Time will tell.
Heh – for once an MMO where character respawning is actually part of the original setting.
Well, for Cylon characters at any rate… 😉
This is funny. Vivendi denied they were announcing a BSG MMO. Doesn’t mean they aren’t working on one, but there is nothing yet except a removed post from EB. Granted, it’s not like EB just throws out grenades at whim, so probability is high.
This could go any way. I would prefer a Wing Commander type game, or even a Vendetta Online with BSG graphics. The only difference would need to be the constantly moving star field and “star bases (fleet ships) to show a sense of progress through space 😉
Oh, and I imagine this is for the new series, given the timing. Too bad the ratings have been declining, but maybe they’ll hit their stride again.
I suppose an MMO could be done for Battlestar Galactica, but would it be based on the first Cyclon War or the post apocolyptic setting that’s viewed in the current TV series?
In a world that’s historically as harsh as BSG I would like to believe a certain focus of the game would exist with a solid system that facilitates a high risk vs. reward type of game play.
