A bit of Areae news

I should make a category for Areae-specific stuff! Not that I want it to take over the blog, of course. I didn’t bother linking to every bit of coverage from the announcement because there was so much of it. But this interview with the Guardian ended up being much about overall topic than about specifically the company and the project. Longtime blog readers will probably see some stuff that echoes things I have said before…

Mmmm, more fuel for the speculation fire 😉
This article resonates so much with things I’ve been wanting to see on the web for a while. Starting with MMO’s the late GNE (game neverending) and the growing idea of incorporating play into web applications I can see how there is going to be this kinda fusion of web apps + gaming + social software. Looks like Areae has it’s finger on the right pulse! I wonder if Raph knows of m3mnoch and his game “the singular“.

Please make suggestions, especially if you have good, scientific information on how useless prayer really is. I haven’t bookmarked any sites. :-(ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT In WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people Who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one Minute to collectively pray for the safety of England ,its people and peace. There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If You would like to participate: Each evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (8:00 PM Central) (6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute Praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, and For a Godly nation. If you know anyone who would like to participate, please Pass this along. Someone said if Christians really understood the full Extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be Speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Together, we “CAN” make a difference! Thank You, and God Bless America! My first reaction is that England certainly didn’t seem to be any better off from all that prayer! My second thought was that if they really understood the extent of the power they have available through prayer, they really would be speechless. Ha ha!But I’d like something that would make them think more than just make them angry.About this Entrygentlemaitresse, posting in antitheism24 commentsLeave a commentPermanent LinkJan. 19th, 2007 @ 12:05 pm Feral woman found in Cambodiahttp://www.boingboing.net/2007/01/19/feral_woman_found_in.htmlDavid Pescovitz: A woman believed to have been missing since 1988, when she was 8-years-old, was found in the jungle of Cambodia’s norther Rattanakiri provence. If she is indeed Rochom P’ngieng, she has been living in the wild for the last 19 years. She was discovered by a villager after she snatched his lunch. From the BBC News: Local police said the woman was “half-human and half-animal” and could not speak any intelligible language… Deputy provincial police chief Chea Bunthoeun told Associated Press news agency: “(The villager) spotted a naked human being, who looked like a jungle person, sneaking in to steal his rice.” (Village policeman Sal Lou) said: “When I saw her, she was naked and walking in a bending-forward position like a monkey… She was bare bones…” Mr Sal Lou said (her) family was now watching her closely after she took her clothes off and suggested she would return to the jungle. Our website is between level 1 and level 2 compliant for accessibility, and i believe there will be someone strategising to improve that further.Me personally? I’m happy with the text headers – but there’s been some prodding by others pointing out that its not consistent with the rest of the ‘corporate brand look and feel’ (what a bunch of wank words). Also, the 2 sites I’m working on, are authorities, and are linked back from other regional sites that are also more minor authorities, so credibility in that sense isn’t a problem, not to mention we’re linked back from the National site, also helpful, not to mention any of the industry partners, i’m pretty sure, linking back to us is a requirement. Plus, the site is text and keyword rich – not random text, its text based on the destinations, the highlights, the itineraries, the hot spots, regional locations, attractions and unique aspects of WA, so the keywords are not a problem. Metadata for the travel/consumer site, also not a problem – not done yet, but the provision is there and the business just needs to actually put the data in, thankfully not my job. Corporate site, that’s a little more interesting – there’s no site owner, so no clear voice and i don’t think its done yet. Having said that, the corporate site, there’s less interest in its SEO applications, its a wa.gov.au site, and not the shiny crown jewel that the new wa.com is intended to be. It’s not something i personally need to source an answer for, or worry about. It came up in the meeting, there was comments on still no answer yet, and I thought it seemed logical to ask, however there was reasonable amounts of well meaning mockage – i just felt that if i was going to be laughed at, i’d investigate a little… This isn’t the first, nor the last thing they’ll be stupid about – there’s no ‘Hedgehog principle’ applied herein. Thanks for all the suggestions and input everyone – I appreciate it, and now see that no matter which way you look its a messy issue, and one that I’m personally glad I don’t have to solve – though if i did – TEXT! :)About this Entrymynxii3 commentsLeave a commentPermanent LinkJan. 19th, 2007 @ 08:02 am Sex-change chemicals in river that runs through US capitalhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/boingboing/iBag/~3/77937219/sexchange_chemicals_.htmlhttp://www.boingboing.net/2007/01/19/sexchange_chemicals_.htmlXeni Jardin: Snip from BBC News item: An investigation into the cleanliness of rivers feeding Washington’s Potomac River has revealed the presence of sex-changing chemicals. case in point? who here has seen my NEW secret project: digg.com + darkthrone.com = hypefighter?
stil an early poc/alpha thing, but sticky, accessible and fun none the less. in fact, i was in the middle of putting together some atom feeds for it when i saw andrew’s trackback from here.
ooh. and as an aside, don’t forget justin hall and duncan gough with their passively multiplayer stuff. justin’s upcoming gdc talk should be fun.
