Archlord is going to be free now. No word on whether this is a prelude to trying alternate business models, or whether it’s just an attempt to build audience in preparation for other MMOs, or what.
Edit: yep, microtransactions.

from the free-to-play faq:
sounds like an alternate business model to me.
m3mnoch.
About time! Back when I first read about Archlord, it seemed that they were trying to have their cake and eat it too: They wanted the subscription and retail revenues from traditional games, plus microtransactions. I think this hurt the game initially. I wonder how the game would have done if they hadn’t tried to have it both ways.
Still interesting news how things are changing. 🙂
Level based PvP…that means something?! Gee, I guess I’d sure want to be an elitelevelgrinder. And then, speaking of being elite, micro transactions…..hmmm.
But that’s my opinion. I’m sure there’s be some gamers who like it. I still think that, in the end, many will have dropped out because they just can’t keep up with the ever expanding elite stuff.
