MDA is a modem

I have my phone acting as a high-speed modem for my laptop via USB. Neat… I never tried this before, but this hotel had no Internet, so it was worth the frustration. Of course, I had to use the phone to Google the instructions, then keep switching back and forth.

Just in case you get woozy with that headcold and forget – MDA may be a modem. MDMA is absolutely not a modem. Do not try to plug it into your USB port.
…and remember: what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. 😉
I used to use my mobile phone as a modem a lot. In fact, I seem to recall that my very first data cable was serial, instead of USB. I eventually stopped doing it, because wireless became so ubiquitous, and I got fed up with the mobile phone companies ridiculously overcharging for their data cables (and their data plans, for that matter).
My most effective use of it was looking up MapQuest maps on a roadtrip, many years ago. Having internet anywhere I could reach my mobile phone network was great, right up until I got out to Grand Coulee, Washington, where Sprint apparently had no coverage, whatsoever, at the time.
These days, I can pull up maps directly on my phone, itself. It’s funny how things change.
