This is a fun job, and you don’t often see one posted like this. 🙂 If the below is you, drop us an email at jobs (at) areae.net!

Areae is on a mission to revolutionize virtual worlds and MMOs. We’re a venture-backed company in beautiful San Diego, and our investors share our passion and vision for the future of online gaming. Our core team includes veteran MMO developers with deep experience from online leaders like EA, Sony Online, and NC Soft, and we have developed and launched some of the world’s most successful online games to date including Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies and EQ2. We are currently looking for a Content Developer to join our team and help develop the next generation of online gaming.

The successful candidate will assist in the design and development of new content using the Metaplace platform, support of customer technical queries via the forums and direct chat, documentation of the toolset and scripting language on the public Wiki. She or he will also assist developers in the identification and analysis of toolset issues. The position requires 1+ years experience in Lua or object-oriented programming, familiarity with principles of game and user interface design, and the flexibility to adapt to daily changes in the development environment. Prior experience with Game Design or Quality Assurance in a production environment is a plus.

  1. God, this is my dream job! It’s too bad I dont’t know anything about Lua. But I’d defiantly pack up and leave for San Diego if I got this job.

Oh well, I guess I’ll just stay a standard Meta Place user, and hope that my game gets a good amount of users.

  2. I hope you also hired someone to sort through the ridiculous amount of resumes you’re going to get too.

  4. No Lua experience, otherwise I’d be knocking on your door, resume in hand.

  5. So, no Lua experience, but plenty of experience with other programming will probably work fine — if you know other OO languages, you can pick up Lua in short order.

  6. I’ll chance my arm, thinking you’ll fly in people from overseas. 🙂

When will people learn!? Areae doesn’t fly people from anywhere. They open a moongate direct to your doorstep. ;p

  8. hmmm, all I can do is make pretty pictures of ugly monsters…what if I draw a Lua monster?

  9. Curse you experience! The bane of my existence.

My game design/UI knowledge is probably better than my OO programing skills, though those do exist at least a bit. Anything higher than basic data structures like lists and trees is way past my knowledge base, and even the more basic stuff would require a refresher as I haven’t been actively programing much lately. But I learn fast enough when motivated. I just have absolutely zero work experience, so anything I could say would be pointing at a few college courses.

There’s also no mention of relocating to San Deigo in there, would that be required? If so I’m definitely out, regardless of experience or skills. Not quite in a place where I could move all the way across the country.

  10. Man I’d move there for a job. Too bad I have no experience and am still in school (although I’d transfer to a San Diego school in a heartbeat). I’ll definitely be letting them know when I graduate though. I heard California’s nice.
