The Sunday Song: Let Us Just Be music

Right before Christmas, I posted the lyrics to something called “Let Us Just Be.” Well, here’s some noodling around the music for it — you should be able to mostly follow right along the lyrics even though there’s no singing.

This is using my new toy, a Yamaha P70, for controlling both the cello and the piano, which are VSTs. My hands and forearms ache in ways they haven’t in years, because I am so very very rusty on piano. I am totally loving the P70 though.

  1. I had a bit of trouble hearing the recording, but what I heard sounded pleasant enough. Yamaha is an amazingly diverse company. They have never disappointed me with any of their equipment and I’m sure the P70 is a great product.

  2. You realize if you’d like me to come over and help you with accompanyment or something, any time, I’d be more than happy to. =) We haven’t jammed for awhile.

  3. Raph,
I guess now is the time to tell you, you are one of the most interesting and deep people I have observed online.

Thank you for altering my perception on human nature, and the importance of the human network revolution.

Your essays and your book have completely changed my life.

    Thank you.

  4. Well, that’s certainly a strong reaction to some piano and cello noodling. 😉

    Thank you, though!

  5. very nice mellow soothing music.

  6. That’s cherry. The cello sound is excellent. Cello and oboe tend to be sounds that are never good enough on synths and that is. I was singing a solo with a choir last Christmas and a world class cellist (Ganja Huff). There is a sensual rapport when voice and a cellist with perfect intonation and vibrato wrap themselves around each other. I look forward to your vocal.

Here is my noodle over the weekend. It is another piece for the VW at Perth. Chris asked for an arhythmic piece, so no sequencing but several layers for texture. I sympathize with the forearms comment. Same here. I wasn’t trained for piano, but the ‘big empty chords and filler’ noodles seem to satisfy people’s need for calm. Gear: Roland 1040, $50 keyboard controller, Godin nylon and electric, harmonica. “dirty deeds done dirt cheap’.
