…aka, the blogging dilemma…

What with all the new sites that track various sorts of virtual worlds news, it’s getting harder to figure out what to blog about. What’s more, I don’t even really know what the readership of the site is anymore (other than “largish.”) Is it people interested in UO/SWG style worldy games? Theory of Fun/Game Grammar scholarly types? Is it people following Metaplace? How many are general web folks looking for the intersection of games and social software?

I know, “write what you want.” But to some degree, I admit I am audience driven. 🙂 I also don’t want to just end up regurgitating old posts, or reblogging news from other sites. Because of this, I have been posting a little less. Of course, I am also doing a lot of work around the Metaplace alpha, so some of the reason for the decrease in posting is that my energy is just going elsewhere…

Anyway, just wanted to take the pulse.

Warning, the rest of this is muddled, self-contradictory musings as the discussion progresses.

I am listening to the panel on mobile right now, and am struck by how little the phone capabilities come up. The panel has folks from Yahoo, Turner, MTV, and the Media Lab on it. And it’s interesting to see the gap between some of the panelists. MTV is talking about how to push content, and the need to create it first for mobile, and migrate it elsewhere, essentially granting mobile respect as a platform in its own right. Yahoo is basically talking about the reverse; what is of great interest to them is the fact that mobile is creating effectively a distributed geocoded videocamera network.

I have my phone acting as a high-speed modem for my laptop via USB.  Neat… I never tried this before, but this hotel had no Internet, so it was worth the  frustration. Of course, I had to use the phone to Google the instructions, then keep switching back and forth.
