I was asked to present a talk at ChinaJoy, the equivalent of E3 in China, back in 2004. Since I was told that many folks in China didn't know that much about where online games had come from, I prepared this little survey of the history. It was an odd experience--I actually felt unsure, as I went through the slides, of what exactly I could reference regarding real world history and the development of online, since so much of it related to the history of attempts at player governance in games.Yes, I know the picture that goes with 1975 is not PLATO's Bridge game. But I wanted an image and couldn't find one.
