How much I walked in London
(Visited 5490 times)I walked around a lot. All over Clerkenwell (where my hotel was), doing a bit of a tour of locations from Oliver Twist. Over to Covent Garden the day of the unconference. Past the Barbican on the day of the SXSW party. And from Tower Hill to the South Bank and all the way across to Westminster Abbey, on the last day. Along the way I stopped in at The Tower of London, Southwark Cathedral, The Globe, and lots of other interesting locations. I have a kajillion photos, of course, but in the meantime, here’s a quick map of where I walked.

VWF not happening now after all!
(Visited 5569 times)In a rather unbelievable turn of events, last night the organizers let all of us know that the venue for the conference is unavailable, because someone was shot there and the police have closed it off for three days!
A variety of side events are still happening, since so many people flew halfway around the world to attend, but the main sessions are not. For example, both the SXSW party and the reciting poetry at Bartle events shall go on as scheduled. 😉
Here in London
(Visited 6464 times)It is rainy and yet quite warm outside.
I was told to take the Heathrow Express into town, but instead I went by Underground just so I would end up at King’s Cross so I could take the photo that is to the right of this post. My kids should be much happier now, because I’d told them i didn’t know if I would have the chance to go by there. There were a fair amount of people there taking pictures, so I had to be patient to get a shot without anyone else in it.
The wall seemed quite solid to me, so I suppose I am a Muggle.
Normally, I combat jet lag by walking. But it’s so dreary out that I am not sure that’s the right solution today! Although the hotel did supply a complimentary umbrella.
I think I am going to go find some lunch instead, and then maybe brave the elements after.
Speaking at Virtual Worlds Forum Europe — off to London
(Visited 11608 times)Tomorrow I fly off to London for the Virtual Worlds Forum. I will be in London until Thursday morning, when I fly back.
I am looking forward to exploring London a little bit — I have never really gotten to wander around it very much, for a variety of reasons. I have some free time on Wednesday, if anyone wants to tour me around or meet up.
I’ll also be at the SXSW party. And I do expect to corner Richard Bartle and recite poetry at him for hours and hours.
More directly related to the purpose of the trip, the conference looks quite good. I will be on a couple of panels with some great folks. i am sure that VWF would love some late registrants, so if you are up for flying to London on short notice, or if you happen to be in the vicinity, I recommend stopping by.
